Human Protein Atlas Database

google-deepmind/science-skills

The Human Protein Atlas (HPA) holds data on where proteins are made in the body. It tells you if a protein is actually present in a tissue or cancer cell. This is different from just reading gene activity because proteins are the real workers inside cells.

You can look up a gene by its common name and get its unique Ensembl ID. Then you can find out how much protein is in different tissues or inside specific cell parts like the nucleus. The data comes from lab tests called immunohistochemistry and shows levels like High, Medium, Low, or Not Detected.

Researchers can also search for genes that meet special protein rules, like being found only in the brain or being released into the blood. This skill helps confirm what the cell actually makes, not just what it plans to make.
